On March 17, 2023, the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Ton Duc Thang University held a thematic seminar titled “Applying BIM Technology in Project Management,” aiming to share advanced applications drawn from current practices in the construction and project management industries.

On March 17, 2023, the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FCE) at Ton Duc Thang University organized a thematic seminar titled “Applying BIM Technology in Project Management” to share advanced applications from current practices in the construction and project management industries. In addition, the seminar served as an important bridge between students and industry partners, creating favorable conditions for learners to gain access to new project management technologies. This contributes to enriching their professional knowledge and enhancing their confidence when starting careers after graduation. Thanks to this meaningful objective, the seminar attracted the participation of numerous corporate guests and nearly 170 students from the Construction, Transportation Engineering, and Architecture programs of the FCE.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Tran Minh Tung, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, emphasized the significance of the seminar in helping FCE students stay updated with emerging trends and new technologies in the construction industry. Dr. Tung stressed that the Faculty always welcomes industry partners to the University to share practical experience, inspire passion, and motivate students to excel in their studies, graduate successfully, and contribute to the nation. He also acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the Department of Fundamentals and the Department of Construction Execution & Project Management for organizing a seminar with such a practical and meaningful topic, noting that industry collaboration is among the Faculty’s key goals for the academic year.

On behalf of the Faculty, Dr. Tung expressed his sincere gratitude to the companies accompanying the seminar, including CPMI – Construction Project Management & Investment JSC, PC One JSC, and GCD Investment & Development JSC. Dr. Tung expressed confidence that following the MOU signing ceremony, these corporate partners will continue to collaborate with the Faculty in future events, strengthening the connection between students and businesses. Such partnerships will help students access new construction technologies, participate in internships, and secure job opportunities after graduation.

During the seminar, expert Nguyen Tien Duong shared hands-on experience in applying BIM in construction project management to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve competitiveness in bidding and project execution. The speaker offered an in-depth analysis of BIM applications across the entire project lifecycle—from surveying, design, and project planning to construction, commissioning, and facility operation.
Students from the Construction and Transportation Engineering majors also raised numerous questions about the advantages, limitations, and legal challenges of BIM in real-world construction activities. These discussions helped deepen their understanding and strengthen their professional competence, boosting their confidence before entering the workforce.

One of the highlights of the seminar was the speaker’s inspirational message about passion for the profession. Drawing from his own career and that of his colleagues, expert Nguyen Tien Duong emphasized that students can only achieve success in the future if they maintain a strong passion for the profession and continuously strive to learn and improve their knowledge—starting from university and throughout their career paths. He affirmed that with this mindset, students will certainly achieve meaningful professional milestones. He also expressed the company’s readiness to support and offer career guidance to FCE students following the MOU signing.

Sharing additional remarks at the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Nguyen Van Vuong—Head of the Department of Fundamentals—noted:
“This seminar not only provides valuable practical insights for FCE students but also opens new directions for scientific research on BIM applications in the construction industry.”
Dr. Vuong expressed his commitment to further strengthening collaboration with corporate partners in order to organize more specialized seminars, explore new approaches and research methods, and thereby promote the Faculty’s scientific research activities in the coming period.
